Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo inaugurated the event, and the Commissioner Secretary of Youth Services & Sports, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, was the guest of honour. The ceremony also featured cultural performances by local school bands.
The CPL 2026 has generated wide public interest, with 1.6 million viewers following the action. Around 1,600 athletes are taking part, with 79 teams competing in 81 matches across eight venues. These teams were selected from a pool of 130 applicants and were initially divided into 26 pools. From there, 32 teams qualified to advance to the knockout round.
Led by the Indian Army in collaboration with BCF, the tournament is designed to give young athletes a supportive environment in which to connect, compete, and showcase their talents. The stated objectives of the CPL include fostering community participation, sportsmanship, and social cohesion, offering young people a platform to express themselves through sports.
