Man Connects Elders in Remote Villages with Their Children Abroad

In China’s Hubei Province, a 39-year-old shop owner named Tian Rui is helping to connect elderly parents in remote mountain villages with their children. For children who work in distant cities or abroad, Tian acts as a link. A former courier, he has made more than 200 trips over the past year, delivering groceries, medication, and birthday cakes, and also staying for conversation and tea. His longest round trip measures 160 kilometers, while one of his clients has a child living 17,000 kilometers away in Bolivia.

Tian’s service addresses needs in China, where many young people move from their hometowns to find better jobs, leaving elderly parents behind. The sense of isolation this can create prompted Tian to use his experience as a courier to help. He offers a service that delivers not only goods but also an emotional connection.
