Solidarity NGO launches water networks for 2,600 families in Nimroz

On August 27, 2026, three water supply and sanitation networks were opened in the Khashrod district of Nimroz province. The initiative was implemented by the Solidarity organization alongside the provincial Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, representing an investment of more than 12 million afghanis. Approximately 2,600 families are expected to gain access to clean water through this project, which addresses a primary concern for the region.

The completion of these networks follows a period where safe water was difficult to find in many rural parts of Afghanistan. The project took six months to finish and is part of a broader effort to modernize water infrastructure. The implementation process utilized the capacity of local organizations to work in tandem with government departments.

Success depended heavily on community involvement. Mawlawi Asadullah “Sahar,” the head of the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department in Nimroz, emphasized that local residents are responsible for the protection and maintenance of the networks. In the villages of Khairabad, Razi, and Burj, community members have been active in planning for the long-term sustainability of the facilities.

The project is also expected to have a positive effect on public health. By providing clean drinking water, the networks help reduce the risk of waterborne diseases that often impact local populations. These improvements to sanitation are intended to support the general development of Khashrod district and enhance the quality of life for resident families.

The ongoing upkeep and possible expansion of the water supply will remain a priority. Stakeholders, including local leaders and government representatives, are expected to continue their cooperation to maintain the infrastructure. This initiative acts as a model for similar work elsewhere in Afghanistan and emphasizes the role of reliable water access in community stability.
