Twenty blackbucks rewilded in Gujarat's Banni Grasslands

On August 15, 2026, coinciding with India's 80th Independence Day, the Gujarat Forest Department, with technical support from Vantara's Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Jamnagar, successfully rewilded 20 blackbucks in the Banni Grasslands of Kutch, Gujarat. This initiative involved releasing 15 female and 5 male blackbucks (Antilope cervicapra) into their natural habitat, marking a significant step forward in the conservation of native wildlife in this vital grassland ecosystem.
