20 MW wind power project completed in Uzbekistan with Chinese assistance

A new 20 MW wind power project has been completed in Chalvak, Uzbekistan, marking a notable step in the region’s shift toward renewable energy. Located about 90 kilometers from Tashkent, the facility is designed to boost the area's capacity for clean electricity. Built with the help of a Chinese team, the site features four wind turbines, each providing 5 megawatts of power, alongside a 35 kV switching station. The project is expected to supply enough electricity to meet the annual needs of tens of thousands of local residents.

Completing the wind farm required overcoming significant logistical hurdles, specifically the difficult mountainous terrain and the complexities of transporting heavy equipment. Even with these challenges, the work was finished in just 12 months. The mayor of Bostarek district noted the Chinese team’s skill in managing the difficult conditions. In addition to the turbines themselves, the project involved renovating about 5 kilometers of access roads, which has also improved the local infrastructure.

The electricity generated here is projected to save roughly 12 million cubic meters of natural gas every year, which in turn reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about 24,000 tons. This initiative fits into Uzbekistan’s broader strategy for clean energy and serves as a practical example of how renewable resources can be integrated into daily life. The project was a joint effort involving several organizations, including the Ministry of Commerce and the Xinjiang Department of Commerce, illustrating international cooperation in sustainable development.
