In the second quarter of 2026, the U.S. energy storage industry reached a significant milestone by installing a record 20.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of new battery capacity. This achievement raises the total installations for the first half of 2026 to 30.8 GWh, according to the U.S. Energy Storage Market Outlook Q3 2026 report released by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Benchmark Mineral Intelligence. The remarkable growth in utility-scale energy storage capacity, which nearly doubled from 88 GWh to 165 GWh, underscores the increasing reliance on battery storage to improve grid reliability and address the rising demand for electricity.
