Adarsh Kumar, a 19-year-old from Champaran, Bihar, has secured a full-ride scholarship to Georgetown University in Qatar worth approximately Rs 3.5 crore. His journey began at 14 when he left home with only Rs 1,000 and an old laptop to look for a better future. Despite years of financial hardship and academic rejections, he persevered. The scholarship covers his tuition, accommodation, meals, flights, visa, and health insurance, along with other educational costs. He will study at Education City in Doha alongside students from more than 70 nationalities.
Growing up in a single-parent household in Bihar, Adarsh’s early life was marked by financial constraints. He remained focused on his education, though his first attempt to join a coaching institute in Kota failed because he could not afford the fees. Rather than giving up, he turned toward entrepreneurship. He established Skillzo, a platform that has now reached nearly 20,000 students by offering skills training and mentorship, reflecting his desire to help others while working toward his own goals.
As he continued to look for ways to learn and grow, Adarsh earned several scholarships, served as a Google Youth Advisor, and took part in international entrepreneurship programs. In 2025, he was awarded the Global Student Prize, having been chosen from nearly 11,000 nominations across 148 countries. This recognition helped further his work in student empowerment. His acceptance to Georgetown University represents the next major step in his education, built on a foundation of persistence and external support.
Adarsh was with his mother when the acceptance email arrived. It was an emotional moment for both of them as they looked back on the difficulties they had navigated together. His mother has been a steady presence throughout his journey, and they shared the news with quiet excitement. Adarsh noted the importance of those who helped him along the way, stating that his education has relied on scholarships and individuals willing to open doors for him. This experience has driven him to create similar paths for other students through his own initiatives.
At Georgetown University, Adarsh intends to study Political Science, Economics, and International Relations. His path illustrates the effect that resilience and educational backing can have on young people facing difficult circumstances. As this new chapter begins, he plans to use his studies to expand his mission of providing opportunities to others, working from the belief that barriers can be overcome when the right support is available.
