Adarsh Kumar from Bihar Wins Rs 3.5 Crore Georgetown Scholarship

Adarsh Kumar, a 19-year-old student from Champaran, Bihar, has reached a significant milestone by securing a full-ride scholarship to Georgetown University in Qatar, valued at around Rs 3.5 crore. This scholarship covers all educational expenses, including tuition, accommodation, meals, flights, visa, health insurance, and other related costs. Adarsh's path to this esteemed opportunity has been marked by perseverance, innovation, and a strong commitment to education, making his accomplishment noteworthy not only for him but also for his community.

Adarsh's story began at the age of 14, when he left his home in Bihar with just Rs 1,000 and an old laptop, determined to seek opportunities that his circumstances did not provide. Raised by a single mother in a financially challenged environment, he faced numerous obstacles in accessing quality education. His initial dream of attending a coaching institute in Kota was impeded by financial limitations, prompting him to explore alternative routes to achieve his educational goals.

Through resilience and creativity, Adarsh founded Skillzo, a platform aimed at empowering students by offering access to skills, mentorship, and opportunities. This initiative has successfully reached nearly 20,000 students, demonstrating his dedication to fostering educational equity. At the same time, he pursued his own education and secured various scholarships, becoming a Google Youth Advisor and participating in international entrepreneurship programs.

His efforts culminated in winning the Global Student Prize in 2025, making him the first Indian recipient of this honor. The news of his acceptance into Georgetown University arrived at a poignant moment for Adarsh, who was with his mother when he received the announcement. His mother has been a steadfast supporter throughout his educational journey, and sharing this achievement with her held special significance.

Adarsh's application process was filled with challenges, including 22 rejections from other universities before Georgetown considered him, aided by advocacy from the organization Second Chance, which recognized his potential and facilitated his application. Looking ahead, Adarsh plans to study Political Science, Economics, and International Relations at Georgetown, with the aim of using his education to create further opportunities for others in similar situations.

His journey highlights the importance of support systems in education and the impact of opening doors for talented individuals. As he embarks on this new chapter, Adarsh remains dedicated to his mission of helping others achieve their educational aspirations.
