This record-breaking expansion brings the nation's total installed capacity to 150.26 GW as of March 31, 2026. These latest figures nearly double the previous high of 23.83 GW set in the 2024-25 fiscal year. This growth cements India’s position as the world’s third-largest solar market and moves the country closer to its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. Such progress underscores a steady transition toward cleaner energy sources.
The landscape of Indian solar energy has changed rapidly over the last decade. Early efforts were slowed by high costs and technological limitations, but a combination of government initiatives and international partnerships helped lower barriers and improve efficiency.
