The generation reached 18,082 million units (MU), up from 12,101 MU in July 2025. This surge reflects the country's ongoing commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity. Solar energy now accounts for 9.91% of India's total electricity generation for the month, indicating a significant contribution to the overall energy mix and underscoring the potential of solar power in meeting the country's energy demands.
In addition to solar energy, wind power generation also saw growth during the same period, increasing by 5.30% to 18,505 MU from 17,573 MU a year earlier. Wind energy contributed 10.14% to total electricity generation in July 2026. Together, the solar and wind energy generation totaled approximately 36,587 MU, highlighting their critical roles in India’s renewable energy landscape. This growth in renewable sources is essential for achieving sustainability goals and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The cumulative figures for the period from April to July 2026 further illustrate the strong performance of solar energy. During these four months, solar generation reached 80,734 MU, compared to 55,145 MU during the same timeframe the previous year, marking a 46.66% increase. Wind generation for the same period stood at 52,068 MU, up from 49,451 MU, indicating a growth of approximately 5.29%. These statistics reflect a broader trend towards increasing the share of renewables in India's energy portfolio.
The overall renewable energy generation for the April to July 2026 period reached 194,065 MU, showcasing a notable rise from 174,272 MU in the previous year. Renewables accounted for 27.50% of India's cumulative electricity generation during this time, reinforcing the importance of transitioning to cleaner energy sources. The significant year-on-year increase in solar power generation, in particular, highlights the effectiveness of government initiatives and investments aimed at boosting renewable energy capabilities.
